The Legendary Texas Ranches

American-style ranch life originated in Texas and still has deep roots in the state. The images of cowboy and ranch life attract visitors to the state each year. A stay at a dude ranch or a ranch for sale continues to operate as such, is one of the most popular ways to experience what life was like in Texas many years ago. Texas also has the largest ranch in the United States, King Ranch, on the outskirts of Kingsville. The festivities around the state are a reminder of what the cattle ranching industry and has done for the state. The center of the Panhandle Livestock Heritage tells the story of how life on the ranches of Texas with 33 authentic structures of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries has been restored.

"The capital of the cowboys in the world"

Bandera County beckons visitors to sample some of the old West, with spectacular scenery in the hill country of Texas as a backdrop. The motto of Bandera, "The capital of the cowboys in the world" originated when Banner became the scene and starting point of herding large herds of cattle in northwestern United States. When the ranch went through a rough patch during the years of 1930, an enterprising rancher decided to accommodate some types (or "dudes" in English) to help him during depression. Hence arose a new industry. Continues to flourish today throughout Bandera County, with a number of excellent "Dude Ranches" or Texas ranch where tourists can experience ranch life in Texas. A bronze monument, which honors the champions National Rodeo Flag that make their home, located in the garden court and confirms the position of Flag as the "cowboy capital of the world." Another touch of the old life of the West is in the shop of a blacksmith, who still works as such, Main Street and recalling the era of horse-drawn carriages when the furnace was the center of the activities of each village.

More than 30 ranches in Texas offer accommodation for visitors to experience firsthand the lifestyle of the cowboy. Visitors can choose from a relaxing stay in a resort ranch and may well take part in the actual activities of daily living on a ranch. Most ranches and even ranches for sale offer activities such as horseback riding, take a ride on the hay wagon, fishing, swimming and many other activities to keep you busy. With nearly 100 ranches to choose from, visitors can experience ranch life in almost every region of the state.

Six ranches with accommodation ranging from the luxurious to rustic are scattered along the Big Bend region. Once in Big Bend, visitors can explore the park through a variety of activities. Among these are hiking and backpacking through three completely different environments: Chisos Mountains, the Chihuahuan Desert and the Rio Grande or Rio Bravo. Water rafting on the Rio Grande is another option. The river takes you through miles of canyons up1500 ft deep. The echo of the canyon walls amplifies sound the rapid making them appear more frightening than they really are.
