With nearly 100 ranches to choose from, visitors can experience ranch life in almost every region of the state.

Six ranches with accommodation ranging from the luxurious to rustic are scattered along the Big Bend region. Once in Big Bend, visitors can explore the park through a variety of activities. Among these are hiking and backpacking through three completely different environments: Chisos Mountains, the Chihuahuan Desert and the Rio Grande or Rio Bravo. Water rafting on the Rio Grande is another option. The river takes you through miles of canyons up1500 ft deep. The echo of the canyon walls amplifies sound the rapid making them appear more frightening than they really are.
